Ten Months with Ivy

10 MONTHSHOP THE POST:

I’ve established that motherhood is a series of extreme contrasts, often all at once, at times even in the same exact breath. For example, I am completely overjoyed to watch our sweet Ivy girl grow and transform into her own little being. Witnessing her personality emerge day after day is so much fun. I constantly daydream about who she’s going to be. I can’t wait to show her all of the beautiful things that this world has to offer. And yet, at the exact same moment, my entire being wants her to stay tiny forever. To bottle up these moments and never ever leave them…  I’ve also never felt more fulfilled in my entire life while at the same time feeling more depleted than ever before. It can be confusing to say the least, and I do wonder if these vast and wildly contradicting emotions and experiences are something that I’ll ever get used to. Is this simply parenthood in a nutshell? The verdict is still out.

Our girl is growing at a rapid pace and is very quickly transforming from a squishy baby into a pre-toddler of sorts. While she hasn’t taken any steps quite yet, she is pulling up to stand on absolutely everything and getting braver and stronger as each day goes by. She claps along to music and “jumps” when you ask her to. And when you say “what’s that smell?” she scrunches her tiny button nose and gives the cutest stink face.

She’s also staring to show preferences in her books and toys – often leaning towards those that include dogs (my girl!) In fact, one of her newest words is “woof” when we ask her “what does Sage say?” It makes my heart explode each and every time.

This month her very favourite things are unrolling the toilet paper, the toilet itself, and the stairs (which she can effortlessly climb up and down by herself, which is pretty nuts to watch). Needless to say she is becoming so much more fun as the days go by, but is most definitely keeping us on our toes.

She is, by far, the best thing we’ve ever done and it is our greatest gift to experience her presence each and every day. Here’s a peek at what we got up to this month.

Such a beautiful girl! While you are busy teaching her life lessons, you will find that she will teach you some yourself—patience, kindness, empathy, endurance during hard times. Not that you don’t have those now, just that you will be more aware of liberally using those as she will be with you watching and learning. Kids truly make parents better people.
