Seven Months with Ivy

7 MONTH

Our Ivy girl technically turns 8 months in just a few days, but these photos were at least taken on time (and this post has been prepped for weeks now) but are you even a new mom if you aren’t late with just about everything?

Seven months was a big month for our sweet girl. The developmental leap between six and seven months was pretty profound, and I feel like we officially have a “real” legitimate baby on our hands.

We started introducing solid foods using the baby led weaning method and, to nobody’s surprise, she has taken to it like a champ. Girl loves (loves) to eat and so far there isn’t anything that she won’t smash into her face – curries, veggies of all shapes and sizes, lasagna, yogurt, cheese… it’s pretty hilarious to watch, and it’s been so much fun to experience new meals together.

In addition, she now sits unassisted and scoots around in circles when she’s laying on her belly, so the baby proofing has most definitely begun. She has very serious and obvious opinions about just about everything, and one of her favourite activities is watching the dogs play at the dog park (my girl!) She sits there and giggles as they wrestle and it’s just the sweetest thing in the world.

On the communication front, she now responds to her name, and can sign “milk” using baby sign language, which is blowing my mind. My goal has always been to be as present as possible with each and every stage, and while I don’t want to rush a single thing as it’s already proving to pass far too quickly, I can’t wait until we can truly communicate for real. For now, we’re continuing to introduce new signs to her and it’s amazing watching her pick things up so quickly.

Sleep continues to be our biggest hurdle (girl likes to party and doesn’t want to miss a thing), but she did sleep through the night (once!) on October 28th and I didn’t even know what to do with myself. I’m hoping it will become more of a habit but until then I’m doing my best to enjoy our multiple late night rendezvous’.

It continues to be my greatest joy to watch her little world begin to unfold and expand in incredible ways, and I can’t wait to see what’s next. Following are a few moments I loved from this month.
