Our Family Beach Trip

{sunset swims}

Since my daughter was born, we’ve rented a family-friend’s cottage in Southampton, Ontario for a couple of weeks every summer. The minute the weather begins to warm in the spring, it has become the thing I look forward to the most. My entire immediate family always makes it a priority to come for at least a few days, and spending that quality time with all of my brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephew is simply unmatched. It’s such a beautiful spot, a sleepy little beach town with the quaintest homes and most beautiful gardens. The memories we’ve formed year after year remain some of my very favourites.

I’m now home and back in action, but wanted to do a little photo dump to commemorate this special time in our lives. Here’s a peek at our week in Southampton, Ontario, in photos.

    I enjoy your blog and today’s post made me long for the beach.
    Could I ask if you might enlarge your teeny tiny font?

    Love this post.. I live in Southampton.. moved here almost 2 yrs ago now. Moved from Collingwood to a quieter environment.. so quiet. Our little enclave of Nantucket style homes is located in a well-kept ‘secret’ are of the town. It consists of only 32 cottage style homes, all in beach-y hues. We just re-landscaped our front to have ornamental grasses and hydrangea/peony shrubs to reflect the house. All that’s left to do is paint the exterior (next years project?). The Beach Motel renovation is absolutely gorgeous, and I think I know which beach you go to.. we are not far. But, you forgot to include the traditional, Friday night event that is the ‘Sunset Piper’… a young man dressed in full Scottish regalia of a ‘piper’ stands on the stone wall at the end of our ‘High St.’ against the setting sun. As the glowing orb descends into Lake Huron, he turns to face it, while playing ‘Amazing Grace’ or ‘Danny Boy.’ And, while the audience responds with great enthusiasm for this, the tradition of watching the setting sun and for some, also the sunrise along our beautiful beaches from here to PORT ELGIN a few kms. away. We have some wonderful shops on the High st., art classes, yoga on the beach and theatre productions like ‘Karaoke Dreaming’ — I’ll look for you and say ‘hi’ if I’m certain it wouldn’t be too much of an interruption. Meanwhile, thanks for celebrating Southampton… a nice surprise.
