The Best Interior Design Trends for 2024

In the ever-evolving world of interior design, staying on top of the latest trends is admittedly part of my job. While I’m a firm believer in crafting spaces for enduring appeal, rather than falling victim to fleeting fads, the allure of “interior design trends” cannot be ignored.

As a designer who’s wholeheartedly committed to longevity, I do find myself keeping my eye on the design trend pulse all the same. There are many popping up right now that I do love for the moment, but that I don’t think will last for the long-haul. These interior design trend predictions, however, are not that. Here are a few beautiful things I’m noticing on the regular, that I feel confident will have timeless appeal. Here are my predictions for a few timeless interior design trends for 2024…

PS: Check out my interior design trends post for 2023, 2022, 20212020201920182017 & 2016. While all of them were most definitely in the spotlight that year, I still subscribe to just about all of them

TAPESTRIES, EMBROIDERY & JAQUARD FABRIC:

These rich “granny” fabrics are hot right now and as a self proclaimed 80 year old at heart, I’m all for it. Use them on window treatments or toss cushions – heck frame them and hang them on your wall. I particularly love how these fabrics help add a layer of warmth, soul and vintage charm that you just can’t beat.

PATTERNED DRAPES

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of pretty patterns – the more the merrier as far as I’m concerned. So it’s particularly exciting that patterned drapes are having a moment. A small to medium-scale pattern is my personal m.o, but really anything you love goes. Here are a few examples that I’m loving.

BOLD STRIPES

Okay so I would argue that stripes are timeless through and through, but I’m noticing more and more bold stripes popping up in every sense, and in all sorts of applications. From a simple roman shade, to entire wallpapered rooms, to tiled pools (and shower stalls) and beyond, there’s no telling where they’re going to show up and I’m loving every minute of it.

YELLOW

I never thought I’d see the day, but I’m really starting to love a little hint (heck, even a big hit!) of yellow these days. Nothing over the top, but something a little buttery simply feels like sunshine right now. And maybe it’s the thick of winter in Canada speaking (it’s snowing as we speak), but I’m not one to say no to a little sunshine. Here are a few examples I’m loving (in big and little ways)…

edit: a friend just reminded me that I used to have a yellow thing happening in my first apartment and I completely forgot about this. I found ancient evidence from 2010, too – hah. A full circle moment!

SCULPTURAL SCONCES

I’ve always felt like lighting should make a statement, but that has historically been reserved for chandeliers and pendants. You know, the real show stoppers. But lately I’m noticing sconces popping up more and more frequently. That layered lighting is king, and a sparkly sculptural beauty only helps to elevate the whole thing. I love the a sculptural sconce feels like a work of art in and of itself, and I am firmly on board for the whole thing.
