Let’s talk about dentil molding for a second. Though I’ve been blogging for over a decade now, my day job—the one that truly sets my heart on fire—is interior design. Design courses through my veins, and I can’t help but notice all the little details everywhere I go. It’s both a blessing and a curse, as I often spot beautiful things that might otherwise go unnoticed. Unfortunately, the opposite is often true too (hah).
Luckily, today I’m here to bring up that pretty design detail I’m noticing much more frequently lately. It’s a small but mighty one that stands firmly rooted in history, yet is definitely having a moment right now. And that is dentil molding. The little notched crown detail is nowhere near a new design feature, but it’s a beautiful one, worthy of the spotlight.
I’m partial to dentil molding installed in a more modern space—that contrast creates the most beautiful tension. But I’m also seeing it in traditional spaces and on furniture too. Here are a few beautiful examples of dentil molding that I’ve been collecting.
