Designing an Urban Living Room

el_loft-hero
While there’s no denying that my design aesthetic tends to inherently land on the soft and pretty side of things, every once in a while a project comes along that forces me to reach slightly outside my comfort zone. Ambitious by nature, I love being faced with a challenge, so when The ELEVATE Design Collective asked me to design a virtual living room using product lines from their recent collection of modern home accent brands, it was a resounding yes. While these products were custom made for this project, and unfortunately not available for retail, it was such a thrill to work with such elegant items.

Inspired by the loft that Jennifer Wagner Schmidt designed in the flesh (above), here’s my take on an urban living room, with just the slightest edge. Using Hunter Fan, JELD-WEN and Schlage as a jumping off point, the space feels elegantly pulled together, yet totally unpretentious. An extra deep sofa acts as the perfect location to curl up with a warm cup of tea, and a really great book.

The 2016 ELEVATE Design Collective is transforming the look and feel of the entire home with brands including Delta® Faucet, Formica®, Hunter Fan, JELD-WEN®, KitchenAid® and Schlage®. They recently held an event to unveil the custom, signature, colour they had designed with Pantone: Single Malt, a rich, cognac-hued tone, reminiscent of falling leaves and your favourite well-loved leather chair. Subtly infused into some of my very favourite resources, it has quickly become one of my very favourite hues, and I anticipate seeing it far and wide going forward.
